Sachin Tendulkar has ruled out playing for India in the World Twenty20 despite calls to include him in the squad.
India batting legend Sunil Gavaskar had appealed for Tendulkar, who has been in tremendous form for the Mumbai Indians with 176 runs in four matches in the ongoing Indian Premier League, to be available for next month's event in the Caribbean.
But the record-breaking batsman has other ideas. "I will not be playing the ICC World T20. I have not played T20 internationals from 2007 onwards and I do not think it should become an issue now," he told CNN-IBN.
The India squad for the World Twenty20 will be announced on Friday.
Tendulkar, 36, won the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday almost single-handedly with an unbeaten 71 for Mumbai in the seven-wicket victory.
India's former opening batsman Navjot Singh Siddhu had also urged Tendulkar to be available for the World Twenty20, saying the player is still good enough in any format of the game.
"Sachin is a cricketer who can adapt to any situation and score at any level," he said. "He is like a little boy whose enthusiasm for cricket refuses to die."
